When to call an electrician

Some things can wait for a convenient afternoon. Some cannot. Call straight away if you notice any of these:

• A burning smell, scorch marks, or a socket that is warm to the touch
• A breaker that trips again as soon as you reset it
• Sparking from a switch, socket or light fitting
• Any exposed or damaged cable you can see

These are not things to live with while you decide. Switch the circuit off at the board and call us on the number at the top of this page.

Older flats

HDB electrical works in an older flat often uncover wiring that was fine for the appliances of its day and is not fine for an air-conditioned home with an induction hob. If your board still uses rewireable fuses rather than breakers, it is worth having someone look at it before something forces the issue.
