Fault Finding

Fault finding is diagnosis. The point is to locate the actual fault — a short circuit, an earth leakage, a damaged cable run — rather than replace parts until the symptom stops.

What we test for

• Short circuit — live and neutral making contact where they should not
• Earth leakage — current escaping to earth, usually why an RCD keeps cutting
• Wiring faults — damaged, degraded or incorrectly connected cable
• Faulty appliances — often the real cause, and cheaper to find than to rewire around

Why it is worth doing properly

Replacing a breaker that keeps tripping does not fix anything if the fault is downstream of it. Electrical fault detection isolates the circuit, tests it, and narrows down where the problem actually sits — then you replace one thing instead of several.
