In this climate an aircon unit runs most of the year, and it degrades quietly. Cooling drops off a little at a time, the bill creeps up, and one day the unit is running constantly without cooling the room.

Which service does your unit need?

This is the question we are asked most, and the answer is usually simpler than the price list suggests.

• General servicing — the routine visit. Filters cleaned, coils checked, drainage cleared. This is what most units need, most of the time.
• Chemical wash — when general servicing is no longer enough. The coil and drainage are chemically cleaned without dismantling the unit.
• Chemical overhaul — the unit is dismantled and deep cleaned. For units that are badly clogged or have been neglected for years.
• Gas top up — only if the unit runs but does not cool. Gas does not get used up; if it is low, it has leaked, and the leak needs finding.

If you are not sure which you need, do not guess and do not let anyone sell you an overhaul before someone has looked at the unit. Call and describe what it is doing.

Aircon that leaks water

Water dripping from a wall unit is almost always a blocked drainage pipe rather than a fault in the unit itself. It is a common call and usually a straightforward one.
